Edo PDP withdraws case against Oshiomole’s victory
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state says it would no longer challenge the 14 July 2012 governorship election victory of comrade Adams Oshiomhole. The opposition party in the state had filed a case last Friday in Benin listing Oshomhole, state electoral commission, the action congress of Nigeria and the state returning officer as defendants in the case. A retired General Charles Airhiavbere was the PDP candidate.
The state PDP chairman,Chief Dan Osih Orbih, who made this known while addressing the media said they are withdrawing the case challenging Oshiomole’s victory at the election tribunal after consultations with the leadership of their party within and outside the state.
However, Orbih accused Oshiomhiole and his the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) of political intimidation and manipulation of processes durning the election.
Sources told Gistmaster News that the withdrawal of the petition against Oshiomhole was to cool tension that was already brewing within the party. There are those who seriously objected to the petition because they believed that Oshiomhole won hands down. They strongly believe that going to court would have been a complete waste of human and material resources.
Sources further hinted that the presidency was not in support of the petition because they saw Oshimhole’s victory as one well deserved. “Even President Goodluck Jonathan and some PDP governors congratulated Oshiomhole publicly after he was declared winner, so what are we saying”
