Boko Haram destroys MTN, AIRTEL telecom masts in Nigeria
Telephone masts belonging to MTN and Airtel in Kano and Maiduguri have been attacked and destroyed by gunmen suspected to be operatives of islamist sect, Boko Haram.Funmi Omogbenigun, a senior executive working with MTN Nigeria confirmed the development.
A Reuter correspondent said he saw 10 mast burned down and destroyed today in Maiduguri.The in flow of telecommunication network was distrupted as a result of the incident.Why the insurgents carried out the mass destruction of mast owned by mobile phone companies still remain shocking to many people especially in the northern parts of Nigeria.Also, no official statements have been issued by sect claiming or denying responsibility of the operation.
Some leaders and operatives of Boko Haram have been arrested through investigations conducted by police aided by the telecom companies.
A media practitioner who does not want his name mentioned said “Police are too lousy about their investigation procedures. They tell the whole world how they conduct their investigation.Now this is the result”
