Details of President Goodluck Jonathan live broadcast
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan live broadcast to Nigerians this morning was about the flood that have been ravaging some parts of Nigeria.Jonathan emphasized his government commitment to provide succor to those affected.
In this latest broadcast, Jonathan said his government have already spent a lot of money towards ensuring that those affected are well rehabilitated. In his presidential speech on Tuesday (today), he said the ministry of environment has spent about 95 million naira. Other ministries and federal government agencies have also spent huge sum of money in that direction.
Jonathan said ”In addition to this, the Federal Government has decided on a number of other measures. This includes the provision of a total of 17.6 billion Naira in direct financial assistance to the affected states and some federal government agencies responsible for disaster management.The state will receive a total of 13.3 billion Naira while the FG agencies will receive 4.3 billion Naira.
Jonathan said industrialist, Aliko Dangote and human rights lawyer, Olisa Agbakogba (SAN) to co-chair committee on flood relief and rehabilitation to assist the government to raise funds to mitigate the pains and ensure the effect of post impact rehabilitation of victims.President Jonathan appointed Otunba Mike Adenuga the Chairman of Globacom as the Chief fund mobilizer. “The full membership of the committee would be announced immediately after the broadcast”
Joanthan said that the 17.6 billion government direct fund would be shared with the states and agencies based on assessment that has been made. The states have been categorized into four groups.Category A will receive 500 million each,category B states will get 400 million naira each, category c states will get 300 million naira each and category D states will get 250 million naira each.
States under category A include Oyo, Benue,Kogi,Pleateau,Adamawa,Delta,Bayeslsa and Anambra. Those listed by the President under category B states are Jigawa,Kano,Bauchi,Kaduna,Niger,Nassarawa,Taraba,Cross River,Edo,Lagos and Imo.Category C-Kwara,Katsina,Gombe,Ogun,Ondo,Ebonyi,Abia and Rivers. Category D-Sokoto,Kebbi,Zamfara,Yobe,Enugu,Ekiti,Osun,Akwa Ibom,Borno and Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
The following agencies of the Federal Government have also been allocated funds as follows,ministry of works 2.6 billion naira,National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) 1.1 billion naira,ministry of enviroment 250 million naira,National commission for refugees 150 billion naira,Natioanl commitee on flood impact assement 100 million naira.
Gistmaster gathered that many Nigerians are shocked that Mr. President did not address other vital issues of national importance in the speech such as the recent barbaric killings of four students of the university of port Harcourt in Aluu Village, Rivers State,the killings of 26 students by insurgents in Mubi,the fuel scarcity issue and the Bakaasi issue.
