Uniport student, girlfriend shot dead by gunmen

A student of University of Port Harcourt and his girlfriend were shot dead last night by armed men in Choba, the major host community of the institution in Rivers State.Their friend who  passed out of the National Youth Service Corps this week was also shot dead in the process.

Sources disclosed that the three of them went to celebrate the passing out of their friend from the NYSC. While coming back, they ran into a shop. They were  allegedly drunk and got into argument with the owner of the shop.

niyitabiti.net gathered that within a short time, some gunmen driving in a sport utility vehicle (SUV), appeared and opened fire on them killing the corp member, his friend and girlfriend in the process.

Ben Ugwuegbulam, Rivers state police public relations officer confirmed the incident. He also disclosed that investigations have begun into the matter.

A senior staff of the institution said they are already working on making the security around the school better. The school has already been shut down following the extra judicial killings of four students of the university by people in Aluu village.
