ENUGU—THE people of Udi North, in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, have opposed the proposed defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC, by the immedate past governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sullivan Chime.
Chime is from Udi South of the local government but is alleged to be slated to declare for APC at Udi North in a yet to be disclosed date.
Rising from Udi North Leaders’ Forum at Awhum, yesterday, the people of Udi North lamented Chime’s neglect of the area, saying he never visited the area in the eight years of his administration.
They cited the construction of Opi-9th Mile-Oji River old road, which Chime only commenced at 9th Mile to Oji, abandoning the Udi North section of the colonial road.
Part of the communique read: “Against these backdrops of innate and calculated slavery status that characterised the plight of Udi North since 1999, we view Sullivan’s decision to come to Udi North and join the APC as an insult to the sensibility of Udi North and a deliberate attempt to put the people of Udi North on collision course with the people- friendly government of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and worthy representations of both Senator Ike Ekweremadu and Dennis Amadi.
“We stand in clear and unequivocal terms that Udi North has never supported any other party but PDP and we vow to continue in support of Ugwuanyi, Ekweremadu and Amadi.”
Among those present at the forum included former Secretary to the government of old Anambra state, Prof. Onyema Ochuoha, member representing Udi/Ezeagu federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Dennis Amadi; traditional rulers of the communities in the area, among other political leaders.
Former governor Chime has been receiving back lashes particularly from his immedate Udi local government council ever since he left PDP and on the verge of defecting to the APC.
Recently, the people from Udi south divide of his local government tongue lashed him for marginalising the people as governor.
Chime however said he will not reply any of the groups against against him, stating that some politicians in Enugu are orchestrating the campaign of calumny against him.
