Foremost political affairs analyst and researcher, Mr. Uche Igwe has stated that he was convinced that allegations of corruption against Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, were false and baseless.
Igwe who was reacting to allegations levelled against Amaechi prior to his appointment as minister, stated this after listening to the confessions of Mr. Livingstone Wechie of the Civil Liberties Organization, Port Harcourt during a live television program Focus Nigeria yesterday.
Recall that Wechie regretted that all the allegations of corruption that were levelled against Amaechi was based on forged documents and sponsored by the current governor of the state Nyesom Wike.
‘’Because of the fact the documents were forged, they were unable to go to court against the former governor. Recall that it was the same Wechie who petitioned the Senate not to confirm the nomination of Amaechi as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’’ the civil rights activist said.
Commenting on the issue, Mr Igwe stated that his position on Amaechi has been justified by the revelations by Mr. Wechie himself.
“I am shocked but not surprised at the confessions of Wechie Platform Livingstone on AIT Focus Nigeria yesterday. It was this same fellow that who boasted that he had evidence of corruption against the Minister of Transportation.
He admitted that they were all forged documents. The man Livingstone Weche has now recanted on the allegations against Amaechi.
‘’What about all the publications in the mass media, as well as advertorials in the newspapers. What about all the information and documents that he took to the Senate?’’ he asked.
‘’It means they were all fake and fabricated according to his confession. That someone will want to deceive the whole country is something I am still trying to come to terms with. The brand of politics played in Nigeria is too dangerous for anyone to emulate. It is so sad that Wike spent so much money propagating falsehood against his predecessor, he added.
