A 39-year-old woman, Ada Ananaba, who allegedly inflicted injury on an 11-year-old girl through beating, was on Monday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, an artist, who resides at 2A Adebisi Ajayi St., Omole Estate, Ojodu Berger suburb of Lagos, is standing trial on a count charge of assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on Dec. 4 at the accused residence.
Ogu said that the woman was a guardian to the girl and she beat the minor to stupor at every slight mistake she made.

Ogu said that a neighbour who pleaded anonymous informed the Ministry of Youth and Social Development of what the child was going through.
According to him, a team was assigned to visit the residence of the accused, and it was discovered that the girl’s body was full of wounds.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Akanni adjourned the case until Feb. 12 for mention.
