TO many, it’s still a mystery on how society matriarch, Chief (Dr.) Nike Onikepo Akande, strikes a balance between her social life and corporate engagements. This perception becomes necessary following her activeness in the two sectors.
Whether as a socialite or a boardroom guru, the light-skinned Ibadan woman knows her onions and always matches without mis-stepping. She has proved this, over time, in many daunting positions of authority that she had headed. The delectable woman of many parts has come a long way and has in many ways become a household name, having made indelible marks on the minds of many upper echelons of society.
In a country where men dominate the space, this woman of substance took the mantle of leadership at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, as its President, and has handled the assignment very well. Under her watch, the respected premier chamber of commerce in Nigeria has grown in leaps and bounds. It has also played some key roles in directing the present government on ways to overcome the daunting economic recession in the country.
No doubt, Chief Akande is a beautiful ageless society matriarch and boardroom guru, who has lived her enviable blissful dreams. Despite her age, the septuagenarian’s dress sense hardly deplete a bit whenever she’s spotted at any high profile occasion. In fact, she always looks girlish than ghoulish with charming smiles like “some sparking light rays that can illuminate a mansion.”
A seasoned business administrator and accountant, she has evolved in over two decades as noteworthy industrialist in the economic landscape of the country. Many board rooms have been graced by the presence of this amiable accomplished woman.
She was Director of the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank, NIDB; member of the Board of Trustees, of the National Centre for Women Development; member, panel to study and re-organize both the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and Trust Investment Company Limited, Ibadan; and Director of National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria, NICON, among others.
This highly respected entrepreneur is still dedicating her years to more meritorious service to her fatherland.
