Nigeria’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) stars who were selected for the nation’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN) arrived in Kano this evening, Monday, to begin their two-week camping programme, before their first-leg away match against Benin Republic in CHAN Kenya 2018 qualifiers.
As at the time of filling this report, 15 of the 25 players invited by Coach Salisu Yusuf we’re present at the team’s Tahir Guest Palace camping venue.
Gaffer, Yusuf, would be assisted by executive member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Sharu Rabiu Ahlan, who would oversee the team’s activities.
LEADERSHIP Sport understands that other invited players were on their way to the ancient city, as their arrival was delayed by the weekend NPFL matches involving their clubs, which barred them from departing their base, with most of the players coming from the Eastern Western and Southern parts of the country affected the most.
The chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, said the state government decided to fund the team’s stay in the state, as part of its sports development drive.
Though Galadima declined commenting on the amount that would be expended in hosting the team in the state, he conceded that the team would travel from Kano to Benin Republic for the first-leg and would return to Kano for the return leg slated for August 18.
