ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) Sunday announced the death of a youth leader of the party, in Abuja whose demise occurred few hours to the commencement of the Special Non- Elective Convention.
Identified simply as Chidi, the youth leader was said to have died on Saturday having arrived Abuja a day before the convention.
Announcing the passing on its official Twitter Handle, @OfficialPDPNigeria, the party said the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday.
“We regret to announce the passing away of one Mr. Chidi, a youth leader and member of the PDP from Ezinihitte, Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
“He died in the early hours of Saturday, August 12, 2017, in Abuja on his way to attend the just concluded PDP Non-Elective Convention, ” the party wrote.
In a related development, the PDP also took to the social media platform to condemn the attack by gunmen on party delegates from Lagos State who were billed to attend the convention, urging the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We also received with shock, the attack by gunmen on some PDP delegates from Lagos State, who were on their way to attend the convention.
” This is sad and unfortunate. We call on the security agencies to investigate the matter and bring perpetrators to book.
“We sympathize with the victims of this barbaric attack and call on our members in Lagos and other States to remain resolute and undeterred,” the PDP wrote in another tweet.
