Robbery suspect killed in clash with police

OLEH—A robbery suspect was, yesterday, shot dead in a gun battle with some policemen at Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State.

It was learned that the deceased was a member of a gang of robbers, who have been terrorising residents of Ozoro and its environs.

A source in the community said Police had gone on the trail of the robbery gang after they attacked and dispossessed a woman of a bag containing an undisclosed sum of money and her mobile phone, on her way from the market.

The source, who preferred anonymity, said the robbers were intercepted by the Police along Ozoro/ Owhelogbo Road, adding that the deceased was killed in the resultant exchange of gun fire, while other members of the gang escaped.

Items recovered from the suspects included a red motorcycle, six guns, cartridges and charms.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, were abortive at press time, but a senior officer from the Ozoro Police Division confirmed the incident.
