The Kaduna State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Friday called on all Nigerians of goodwill to help promote peace, as the country passes through another critical period in its history.
Secretary of the association in the state, Rev. Sunday Ibrahim, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna over recent events in the eastern part of the country.
He said Nigerians must be cautious in their utterances and actions and shun war mongers pushing for the breakup of the country.
“Nigeria needs prayers. Today’s Nigeria is not that of yesterday, and those calling for war have no sense of history and its destabilising consequences.
“We must be calm and approach issues with decorum and responsibility. Nigerians from all divides must live in peace, because without peace nothing will function and we won’t want that to happen.’’
The CAN secretary called on the Federal Government to dialogue with all agitators so as to find peaceful solutions to all areas of contention.
“We should not allow our sense of reasoning to be overtaken by emotions. Peace is the key to the survival of the nation.
“The youths as future leaders must champion peaceful coexistence, where every Nigerian will pursue their dreams anywhere in the country without hindrance,’’ Ibrahim added.
