Disturbed by what it described as poor representation in Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, a pressure group, Ideato Democratic Alliance (IDA) has demanded a review of the process that produces lawmakers from the area.
In a statement after a meeting of the leaders of the group in Urualla, headquarters of Ideato North Local Government, the group regretted that the people of the area have not benefited from democracy dividends as a result of poor representation at the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly.
In the statement signed by the President of IDA, Chief Julius Maduako and the Secretary, Nze Okolie Nwankwo, the group bemoaned “the abandonment of the Ideato Nation by the people we have been sending to Abuja since 1999”.
According to the group, “the Ideato Voice has been drowned since 1999 when Thankgod Ezeani went there till even now that Austin Chukwukere is there. There has not been any bill credited to any of those our representatives. This is quite embarrassing”.
“First it was Thankgod Ezeani, then Patricia Udeogu, Rufus Omeire, Eddie Mbadiwe and now Austin Chukwukere. The story is the same. Are we then cursed or the problem lies with the process of the emergence of those lawmakers”, the group queried.
