The Nupe Day celebration that was postpone from June 26 this year because of the Ramandan period is now scheduled to hold from November 24 to November 26 with different activities and prayers to mark the celebration for the unity and progress of Nupe Land.
A statement by the Chairman of the Publicity Committee and Danmasani Yanma Nupe, Muhammad Kudu Abubakar, stated that the event will begin on a Friday with special Muslim Prayers across Nupe Land and end on a Sunday with Sunday services. “The 9th Nupe Day will witness the display of the fine culture of Nupe Land both in dance and music by various indigenous Nupe artistes from Niger, Kwara and Kogi states, as well as others in diaspora.”
Kudu Abubakar also disclosed that cultural dance and musical display will be at the Etsu Nupe Palace, the Etsu, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar would be the Royal Host while the Royal Father of the day will be the Etsu Tsongan Alhaji Haliru Yahaya.
Other dignitaries expected to be at the celebration include veteran captain of industry, Alhaji Abdullahi B Umar, who would serve as the chairman of the occasion and the governors of Niger, Kwara and Kogi states will be the Special Guests of Honour at the occasion.
Activities for the event would also include the presentation of a book titled ‘The Life and Times of Princess Hajiya Habiba Abubakar (Hajia Nana).”
