Ekiti Assures On Free, Fair Council Polls

Ekiti State Government has expressed its resolved to conduct a free, fair and credible local government election.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Modupe Alade stated this in her Ifaki Ekiti country home, while speaking with journalists shortly after a thanksgiving church service held for her late father-In -law, Pa Joseph Owoyeye Alade at the weekend.

While dismissing insinuations in some quarters that it has concluded plans to manipulate the next Saturday 23, December, 2017 council polls in favour of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates she said it was a wrong assumption.

According to her, those that constituted membership of the State Independent Electoral Commission, (EKSIEC) are tested men and women of honour and integrity.

She said such an outburst was a product of idleness and frustrations aimed at attracting undue sympathy and cover up failure on the part of those who she said are jittery of the intimidating profile and popularity of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in the state.

The Ekiti state chapter of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, it would be recalled had recently advised the major opposition party in the state, the All Progressive Congress, (APC ) to reconsider its earlier decision to participate in the LG poll, describing it as a sham.

The organization had also urged the APC not to waste its resources by attaching “electoral fidelity” to the exercise, saying the party should rather concern itself with the 2018 gubernatorial poll.

Alade, in defense of the state government said the present administration led by a governor that had penchant for defeating even incumbent governors at two different attempts, do not need to manipulate a local government election before winning.

According to her, the governor had despite the ragging economic recession in the country, flooded every part of the state capital, including most towns and villages with many monumental projects that had endeared him to the hearts of residents whose interest cut across party divides.
