Neuer confident of going to World Cup

By Emmanuel Okogba

Germany national team goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer is confident he will return in time for the world cup despite featuring only three times for his club side this season.

A fractured metatarsal in his left foot for the second time this year made Neuer undergo surgery in September but the Bayern shot-stopper is hopeful he will regain fitness soon after the winter break.

Neuer who was first-choice in both the 2010 and 2014 editions of the world cup remains on crutches and is still not sure of his return date.

Speaking to the official website of the German national team, Neuer said “In my opinion, nothing stands in the way of my World Cup participation,.

“It would be nice if I can say goodbye to my two ‘friends’ [crutches] for Christmas, that would be the best present.

“[But] another injury to the bones would be sub-optimal, so you have to be very careful there. You should not make mistakes anymore.”
