The Chairman of Famfa Oil, Modupe Alakija has been suspended by Ikoyi Club in what it termed rude,unruly behaviour unbecoming of a member of his calibre. Billionaire Folorunsho Alakija’s husband membership of Ikoyi club has been suspended for physically abusing another prominent member of the club. He was suspended for 1 year.
The cause of the fight in Ikoyi club between Alakija and another member was because he alleged the man was rude to him. He slapped him and fight started. This led to both members throwing punches and rolling on the floor. An online platform, TheCapital.ng disclosed that Alakija will not be allowed to use the facilities of the club till end of 2022.
GISTMASTER gathered Modupe Alakija’s wife, Folorunsho is the Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil and Gas company. She noticeably got mentioned in Forbes Richest list as she was declared a dollar billionaire some years ago. She is still regarded as one of the richest women in Africa.
The wealthy couple are both Lagosians. Folorunsho’s father hail from Ikorodu,Lagos. One of their four sons, Folarin Alakija got married to delectable Iranian model,Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar in 2017.
Quoting from Alakija’s Wikipedia page now “May 1993, Folorunsho Alakija applied for the allocation of an oil prospecting license (OPL). The license to explore for oil on a 617,000-acre block—now referred to as OPL 216—was granted to Alakija’s company, Famfa Limited.
The block is approximately 350 kilometres (220 miles) southeast of Lagos and 110 kilometres (70 miles) offshore of Nigeria in the Agbami Field of the central Niger Delta. In September 1996, Folorunsho Alakija entered into a joint venture agreement with Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Texaco) and appointed the company as a technical adviser for the exploration of the license, transferring 40 percent of her 100 percent stake to Star Deep.
Once word got out they struck oil, the Nigerian government snatched a 40% stake. Later, they took an additional 10%. For twelve years, she fought the government in court. The government argument was if Folorunsho Alakija and family were allowed to keep their bloc, they stood to make $10 million a day. Still, Folorunsho persisted and in the end she won.
